Evil Eye Warped Square (Hypar) Bangle Bracelet
I stitched this colorful, symbolically meaningful bangle bracelet as a labor of love and as practice for joining together beaded warped squares, or hypars. Design credit goes to the amazing Kim Van Antwerp, who is an absolute inspiration when it comes to the contemporary geometric bead work movement.
The center of each hypar represents a "mati" or evil eye, a charm that offers protection and brings good fortune across many cultures. The popularity of the "mati" goes back centuries
There are five hypar color schemes (2 of each for a total of 10 hypars) in this bracelet. Each holds a different significance. Orange/red square stands for creativity and energy. Yellow represents concentration. Blue is for perspective and general well-being, while Pink is for friendship. Light green equals health and success.
This bracelet slides over the hand bangle style and as stitched will fit a medium to large wrist. However, anyone with a smaller wrist can also wear it by sliding it up to rest on the upper forearm, about 1-1/2" below the elbow. Or, on request, I can remove individual warped squares (hypars) to size it down. Since there are two of each color, none of the color significance will be lost. Simply place your order and in the comments section of your order let me know your bangle size. If you're not sure, email me here and I'll give you instructions on how to measure.
